The initial examination of the scene did not reveal any suspicious details and police appeared to believe it was a suicide. Her husband insisted she would never end her life and went back and forth to check the bathroom for suspicious shoe prints. Police arrested Diego Pillco, a 19-year-old construction worker from Ecuador who confessed to killing Shelly and made it look like she had committed suicide.
